High winds and low humidity contributed to three large brushfires in Allegany County yesterday. Fires were reported in the Williams Road area, along the Mount Savage Road, near Cash Valley Road, and on the Orleans Road. Crews from Allegany, Washington, Garrett and those from surrounding states responded.

A Florida woman was struck by a car and killed Friday evening in Oakland. Sixty-two-year-old Tina Lynn Roberts was taken to Garrett Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
