Shanksville VFD Golf Outing

The Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual golf outing on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Northwinds Peninsula Golf Club, the first golf course designed by Arnold Palmer, located at 1772 Peninsula Drive in Central City. Sign-up begins at 8 a.m., followed by a 9 a.m. shotgun start and lunch at the clubhouse. Get the form to register your team or sponsor a hole @svfd627. there are four hole-in-one challenges.

Garrett County Health Dept. Schedules Rabies Clinics

Thursday, May 16, 2024 through Wednesday, May 22, 2024

With the recent discovery of a rabid skunk in Deer Park, the Garrett County Health Department has scheduled a series of rabies clinics for dogs, cats, and ferrets. The clinics are as follows:

  • The Swanton Community Center will hold a clinic on Thursday, May 16th, from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • The Garrett County Health Department-Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 10-11 a.m.
  • The Grantsville Elementary School, on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • The Friendsville Elementary School on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 5 to 6 p.m.

Bikes for the World Collection Event

Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon

You can donate your bike, put it to good use AND make a difference by donating it to the Cumberland Area Bikes for the World event on Saturday May 18th. Bikes will be collected at Canal Place from 10 a.m. to Noon. They also accept portable sewing machines! Bikes can also be dropped of at Wheelzup Adventures Shop at Canal Place a week prior to the event. Bikes should be in repairable condition. They suggest a voluntary $10 donation to help offset the cost of shipping the bikes. Your bike donation is tax-deductible and can change someone’s life! For more information, call (301)-606-4734.

Cumberland Valley Veteran’s Association Event

Armed Forces Day will be observed by the Cumberland Valley Veteran’s Association on Saturday, May 18, 2024. the event begins at 11 a.m. at 1037 Park Road in Bedford. There will be Patriotic music by Route 867 as well as Doug and Terah Engle. Guest Speaker will be Major General Clay Buckingham. A small luncheon will follow.

Memorial Day “Super Cruise” on Industrial Boulevard

There will be a Memorial Day Super Cruise on Industrial Boulevard on Saturday, May 25th, and sponsored by Hands of Hope of Allegany County. Proceeds will benefit Hands of Hope. Food sales benefit the Distrtict 16 Fire Department. Participating businesses include the Classic Car Wash, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Naylor’s Ace Hardware, and McDonald’s of Cumberland. Car registration begins at 3 p.m. The cruise starts at 4 p.m. through 8 p.m. The first 500 to register will receive a goodie bag and a dash plaque. FLEA MARKET AND PRODUCE SALE AT SOMERSET COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS

Begins June 1, 2024 @ 7 a.m.

The Somerset County Fairgrounds will be hosting a flea market and produce sale, beginning June 1, 2024 at 7 a.m. There will also be other sales on July 6th and August 3rd. They will run until 3 p.m. on those dates. For vendors, there is a $20 set up fee for a 10 X 10 area. Bring your own tables. No electric will be provided. And, take home what you don’t sell. There will be indoor space available in the event of bad weather.

Benefit Spaghetti Dinner-Barton American Legion

Saturday May 25th Noon-4pm

A Spaghetti Dinner to help Marty Kyle cover medical expenses incurred during a recent battle with cancer, and complications stemming from that fight. Dinner will be held from 12-4pm on Saturday 5/25/24 at the Barton American Legion. Meal consists of spaghetti, salad/dressing, bread, and dessert. Dine-in or carry-out available.
If you can’t attend, consider a donation. And if spaghetti isn’t your thing, we’ll have a chinese auction and 50/50.

Christmas in Romney Fundraiser

Christmas in Romney is hosting a Tacos and Trivia Night fundraiser on Friday,May 17th, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Romney Bottling Works events center. Tickets are $15, which includes a taco bar and desserts. Beverages include water, sodas, beer wine and margaritas. VIP tables are also available for $100.00, and that includes 6 tickets, a free “cheat” card and VIP service during the evening. Tickets are available at Anderson’s Corner, Romney Brew Station and the Hampshire County co-op. Tickets will also be sold at the door.Bring your friends and family for some great food, entertainment and lots of fun.

“Buy Nothing, Give Freely” Event

Saturday and Sunday at City Place in Frostburg

The Frostburg Green Team and the Allegany County Library System announced the second annual”Buy Nothing, Give Freely Event. the event invites residents to keep their unwanted items out of the waste stream and instead, offer them to their neighbors for free. The event will take place on Saturday, May 18th from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 19th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at City Place in Frostburg (14 South Water Street.) Contributions can be dropped off at City Place Thursday, May 16th and Friday, May 17th, and will also be accepted all weekend until noon on Sunday, May 21, 2024. Participants drop off items they no longer need; the items are sorted by category, and attendees are welcome to browse the items up for grabs and take home any items that may be useful to them. Headsville Countryside Ruritan Car Show

The Headsville Countryside Ruritan will sponsor a car show at the Keyser WalMart on Saturday, May 18th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first 50 entrants will get a dash plaque, and trophies will be awarded in 7 categories. Lions Club Spirit Night
