The Pennsylvania House Children and Youth Committee has approved legislation to try to ensure playground equipment is as safe as possible. House Bill 1443 would require the state to adopt regulations for safety standards. Those would cover the design, installation and maintenance of all playgrounds operated by the state. The standards would also apply to public, private and charter elementary and secondary schools and approved child-care facilities. The measure additionally would establish a statewide advisory council on playground safety to enforce regulations and inspections.
