CVS DISCONTINUING SALES OF COLD MEDICATIONS WITH INEFFECTIVE INGREDIENT

CVS stores across the U.S. are discontinuing sales of cold medicines that contain a drug now labeled as ineffective by the FDA.  Company officials have told CBS News they plan to stop selling over-the-counter products that use phenylephrine as their only active ingredient.  FDA advisors recently informed the agency that there does not seem to be any improvement in congestion when using the drug.  The substance is used as an ingredient in a number of popular cold medicines, including some variations of Dayquil, Mucinex, and Sudafed.
