MARYLAND SUPREME COURT HEARS ARGUMENTS IN SYED CASE

Maryland’s highest court is being asked to decide whether to reinstate “Serial” podcast subject Adnan Syed’s murder conviction and life prison sentence.  Syed served over 20 years for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, before the conviction was vacated last year and he was released.  Earlier this year, the victim’s brother appealed the conviction being overturned and a state appellate court reinstated Syed’s conviction after ruling a lower court had violated the rights of the family to attend a hearing that led to Syed’s release.  Syed’s lawyers asked the Maryland Supreme Court to review the decision and justices heard oral arguments in the case this morning.
