MARYLAND-BASED PILOT DIES IN PLANE CRASH

There’s a Maryland connection to a deadly plane crash in Lake Placid, New York.  Richard McSpadden, a senior vice president at Frederick-based Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, was one of two people killed in Sunday afternoon’s crash.   According to the AOPA, McSpadden was an accomplished pilot and a former commander of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.  Former NFL player Russ Francis was also killed in the crash.  The organization says the Cessna 177 Cardinal in which they were flying was trying to return to the airport after experiencing an emergency after takeoff but failed to make the runaway.  The NTSB is investigating the crash.
