West Nile has returned. State health officials confirm the state’s first human case of West Nile virus this year. An adult living on the Eastern Shore tested positive for the mosquito-borne illness. Health officials say the patient is recovering from the infection. West Nile is transmitted to people by mosquitoes infected by feeding on birds that have the virus. Residents are advised to limit their exposure to mosquitoes by wearing protective clothing and using DEET repellant.
