BILL WOULD SUPPORT CHANGES FOR GENDER DESIGNATION IN PENNSYLVANIA

A Democratic state senator from Norristown wants to introduce a package of bills that she says will support name changes for gender affirmation. The proposals by Amanda Cappelletti would remove gender designation from birth certificates and end legal publication requirements. They would also provide state grant money for transgender Pennsylvanians who seek a name change as well as require the state human relations commission to provide more information on the process. Cappelletti says when transgender and non-binary people want to change their names, it can be a time-consuming process and can sometimes be traumatizing.
