The city of Cumberland’s Department of Community Development will be doing neighborhood “nuisance sweeps” in the city of Cumberland, beginning today on Mechanic and Centre Streets, and continuing over the next few weeks. Code Compliance Officers will be going to every house on each street, providing notices of violations, or a “thank you” based on your property status. Nuisance code violations include dwellings, yards and lots to be kept clean from the sidewalk to the rear of the property; cutting weeds, noise pollution standards and the like. If you receive a notice of violation, you will have7 to 10 days to resolve it; after that, a formal notice will be issued. And, the owner of a property with no violations will be entered in a drawing for a prize following the completion of inspections on the street.
