AFRICAN AMERICAN LEADERS CALL ON GOVERNOR TO ADDRESS RACIST POST

The Caucus of African-American Leaders wants to know why a Maryland State Police trooper was allowed to retire with benefits, instead of being fired for sharing a racist, sexually explicit meme of George Floyd. Corporal Jason Oros sent the image to coworkers in the days after Floyd was killed by police in Minneapolis. Caucus members gathered outside of Government House Annapolis Wednesday and called on Governor Wes Moore to address the matter. They want Moore to denounce the image and say that as long as he’s the governor, any employee that engages in that type of activity will be fired. State Police issued a statement saying the image in question is condemned in the strongest terms. Officials say the trooper’s retirement is not in good standing and he cannot receive his retired police identification or retirement badge.
