SNAP PROGRAM WILL STAY IN FEDERAL FARM BILL

U.S. Representative Glenn Thompson says the food stamps program will remain part of the U.S. Farm Bill. In comments Monday, the Republican lawmaker who represents Pennsylvania’s 15th District dispelled the idea that a conservative bloc of lawmakers can separate SNAP programs out of the new farm bill. Thompson is chairman of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee. He said the conservative members say the SNAP program, formerly known as food stamps, should be revamped and also include work requirements for some recipients. Representative Thompson made his comments at the Missouri State Fair Monday as part of a listening tour on the massive farm bill. The current measure will expire September 30th.
