HOUSE GIVES FINAL APPROVAL TO A.G. POLICE PROSECUTION BILL

Lawmakers in Annapolis have passed a measure to expand the authority of the Independent Investigations Division of the Attorney General’s Office.  Under the measure approved by the House and Senate the AG’s Office would be able to prosecute police under certain circumstances involving the death or injury of a civilian. Under current Maryland law, local state’s attorneys determine if officers should be prosecuted after receiving a report from the Attorney General. Republicans in the House had offered some amendments to the measure but they failed to pass.
