Maryland is ranked fifth among states with the lowest COVID-19 death rates per capita. A study published in the medical journal The Lancet shows Maryland recorded 285 deaths per 100-thousand people between January 2020 and July 2022. The state trails only Hawaii, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. Washington, DC is ranked 50th, with a COVID death rate of 526 per 100-thousand people. Arizona had the highest COVID death rate during that period.
