INCOMING GOVERNOR FACES VOTING LAW CHALLENGES

Political watchdogs say current Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro will face several challenges as soon as he’s sworn in as governor in a few weeks. One of the big ones is seen as updating Pennsylvania’s voting laws. Many Republicans have called for the repeal of no-excuse mail-in voting. But Shapiro, a Democrat, has said he will pursue only some changes, which might include Election Day and automatic voter registration. The issue is seen as a priority as Pennsylvania is certain to be a battleground state again in the 2024 presidential election.
