MEASURE PROPOSED ON PROCEDURE FOR BANNING BOOKS IN PA. SCHOOLS

A Democratic state lawmaker says he wants to curtail the high number of books being banned at Pennsylvania schools.  State Representative Chris Rabb of Philadelphia proposed legislation Tuesday that would establish uniform procedures for school boards to follow before they block access to a book.  It would mean the state education board and a school board would need to hold at least two public hearings on the proposal.  The forums also would be held before a school board vote on whether to ban the book.
