LEGISLATURE CHALLENGES SCHOOL BOARD AUTHORITY

The West Virginia Senate is considering a bill that would give legislators ultimate control over state Board of Education policies.  Senator Amy Nichole Grady opposes the legislation, citing a previous voter rejection of a similar constitutional amendment in 2022.  The bill would require the Board of Education to submit newly created rules to the Legislature for review and potential rejection.  Paul Hardesty, a state school board member, argues the bill attempts to circumvent the will of West Virginia voters.  The House of Delegates has already passed a companion bill, with potential passage expected in the Senate.
