MD. LAWMAKERS REACH AGREEMENT ON 2026 BUDGET FRAMEWORK

The Maryland General Assembly has reached an agreement on a framework for the 2026 state budget. It was announced Thursday, nearly two months after Governor Wes Moore released his 67-point-3-billion-dollar budget proposal that aimed to address a three-billion-dollar deficit. During yesterday’s press conference, lawmakers presented a plan cutting an additional 500-million-dollars from the governor’s proposal, while introducing new taxes and fees. According to the proposal, 94-percent of Marylanders will see no increase or a reduction in their personal income tax, sports wagering taxes would increase from 15 to 20-percent and the cannabis tax would rise from 9 to 12-percent. There would also be a 3-percent fee for IT services. The budget negotiations are ongoing.
