An inmate at the Dorsey Run Correctional Facility in Jessup has tested positive for Legionnaires’ disease and is being treated at a hospital. The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services says protective measures for all staff and incarcerated individuals in the same housing area have been put in place. Legionnaires’ disease is primarily spread through small droplets of water or mist that contain the bacteria, and early symptoms may resemble those of the flu. The water supply at the facility is undergoing testing and filters in the air handlers are being replaced.
