TEXAS POLICE OFFICER, HAMPSHIRE NATIVE, DIES IN PURSUIT

Texas police officer and Hampshire County native, Sgt. Mark Butler, was killed in the line of duty Wednesday while pursuing a fraud suspect. Sgt. Butler, according to the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department maneuvered his patrol car to shield other motorists against the suspect, who exited the highway in College Station, Texas and reentered the wrong way and had hit several vehicles head-on. The suspect, who was allegedly attempting to cash fraudulent checks at a bank, was not identified, according to the Cumberland Times-News.
