Most medical students will be able to attend Johns Hopkins University for free, thanks to a new one-billion-dollar gift from former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s philanthropic organization. Beginning this fall, Hopkins will offer free tuition for students pursuing a medical doctors’ degree who come from families earning under 300-thousand dollars. Hopkins will also cover living expenses on top of tuition and fees for medical students from families that earn up to 175-thousand dollars. The school says the gift will cover the full cost of attendance — including tuition and living expenses such as rent — for most students.
