SUPREME COURT OF MARYLAND TO DECIDE CONSTITUTIONALITY OF CHILD VICTIMS ACT

The Supreme Court of Maryland will determine if the state’s Child Victims Act is constitutional.  The 2023 law ended the statute of limitations for child sex abuse cases, allowing survivors to file lawsuits regardless of when the abuse took place. The state’s highest court is taking up the matter at the request of a District Court judge who is hearing a sex abuse case against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Oral arguments have been scheduled for the September session.
