HOUSE PANEL OK’S VOTER INTIMIDATION BILL

A House committee in Pennsylvania has approved a measure to give victims of polling place intimidation the right to sue to recover damages. The Judiciary Committee voted 14-11 in favor of House Bill 461. Sponsor Stephen Kinsey of Philadelphia, says it would provide greater protection to voters, election officials and others serving at polling places. It defines intimidation as direct confrontation, aggressive behavior or blocking a polling place. HB461 would allow a person who’s been affected to bring civil action to recover punitive damages, reasonable attorney fees and other legal costs.
