Longtime Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos is dead at the age of 94. In a statement, Angelos’ family said he died Saturday and “had been ill for several years.” Angelos helmed a group that purchased the Orioles in 1993 for 173-million dollars, the highest price for a sports franchise at the time. Angelos, who was known as being a hands-on owner, made his fortune as a lawyer. His death comes as his family was preparing to sell the Orioles to a group led by Baltimore native David Rubenstein.
