STATE GAME COMMISSION DELAYS REINTRODUCING MARTENS

The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners has tabled plans to reintroduce American Martens back into the state. The issue was tabled at a recent board meeting, instead of moving forward with an official vote. Martens – a native species that’s similar to a minx – went missing about a century ago. The commission voted to prohibit hunting fur-bearing creatures with dogs – especially when hunting for coyotes that reportedly chase deer and bear off lands. The commission also legalized ice eaters as approved hunting devices and decided to list the black rail, a marsh bird, as a threatened species.
