Department of Environmental Protection tick specialist Christian Boyer says it’s called the Powassan virus and is also known as Deer Tick Virus.  He says he and his colleagues have also  identified increasing spread of the Asian longhorned tick. He says it discovered only three years ago and it has spread to 24 counties now. The Asian tick has been found in Monroe County,  Pittsburgh and some of the counties bordering Ohio.
