STATE’S JOBLESS RATE HITS RECORD LOW

The state of Pennsylvania’s jobless rate has hit a record low.  Officials at the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry say the three-and-a-half percent rate for August matched the rate for July and that has set a record for the commonwealth.  The labor force,  the number of people working or looking for work, also remained relatively flat at just under six-and-a-half million. While Pennsylvania held steady, the U.S. jobless rate jumped to three-and-a-eighth percent in August, a third of a percent higher than July.
