ANNUAL AUDITS MAY BE REINSTATED IN MINERAL COUNTY

Mineral County is looking into reinstating annual audits for its 11 volunteer fire departments. None is under suspicion, but at least one commissioner-Jerry Whisner-says a regular review of each department’s books is overdue. Mineral County was notified several years ago that the state auditor’s office would be taking over the performance of financial audits on fire departments but fell behind during the COVID-19 pandemic. So, Mineral County is considering the implementation of its own audit procedure to guard against potential embezzlement.
