MARYLAND GAS PRICES UP 27-CENTS IN THE PAST MONTH

Maryland gas prices have increased by around 27-cents over the past month bringing the average for a gallon of regular to three-dollars-80-cents. Triple-A says prices at the pump are up because the cost of crude oil has increased since the start of summer and there is a higher demand for gas with more people traveling this summer. Morgan Dean with Triple-A Mid-Atlantic says the increases are slower compared to last year, but that may not last as we get closer to the height of hurricane season. Dean says a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico could create a major disruption with oil platforms and refining facilities along the coast and pipelines that transport fuel across the country.
