INMATE RETURNED TO CUSTODY AFTER ESCAPING TRANSPORT VAN

Maryland State Police say the inmate who escaped from a prison transport van Wednesday morning is back in custody.   Thirty-eight-year-old-year-old Randy Morris was not handcuffed or shackled when he unlocked the van’s door at around 8:30 a.m. and took off near Dorsey Run Road.  Several hours later, a TV news crew spotted Morris and called police who arrested him at around 6 p.m.  Morris was being taken to a medical appointment when he escaped.  There has been no comment from the Department of Corrections on the policy of securing inmates for transport. Morris was serving a ten-year sentence for burglary.
