PA. GOVERNOR SIGNS BILL THAT MAKES INSURERS COVER BREAST CANCER COSTS

Pennsylvania is now the first state in the country that makes insurers fully cover the cost of breast-cancer screenings. The measure signed into law Monday by Governor Josh Shapiro also makes sure costs are covered for MRIs and ultrasounds for women with high risk conditions. It additionally mandates that insurers cover genetic testing and counseling for people at high risk of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations, which predisposes them to breast, ovarian and prostate cancers. The law takes effect in 2025.
