REPORT SHOWS MARYLAND PRISONS ARE UNDERSTAFFED

A new report indicates that Maryland prisons are understaffed by more than three thousand correctional officers.  The report was commissioned by the union representing correctional officers.  The state Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services currently shows that it has over 400 vacant positions.  The union says the vacant positions need to be filled and new ones added to ensure the safety of prison staff and of the inmates.
