SHAPIRO’S PROPOSED EDUCATION SPENDING TO RISE BY ABOUT 7 PER CENT

Governor Josh Shapiro is proposing a financial increase to Pennsylvania’s schools but is not proposing to use the state’s reserve cash.  He said in his budget address last week that the eleven-billion-dollars the state has in cash reserves can’t be depended on for future spending.  The governor has asked for just over 567-million for day-to-day school expenses, which is about a seven percent increase.  Governor Shapiro’s budget proposal needs approval from the both the state House, where his fellow Democrats are in power, as well as the Republican-controlled state Senate.
