Property values have risen in Maryland, and with that, many Allegany County residents are receiving a shock when they discover this. The Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation recently issued a first round of tax assessments to some property owners, according to the Cumberland Times-News. The Department reassess one of three zones in Allegany County and this year, Zone 2-which includes the George’s Creek area-jumped to 23-and-one-half per cent.
