HUNTERS DONATE 187,000 POUNDS OF VENISON FOR NEEDY FAMILIES

Pennsylvania hunters are continuing a strong tradition of donating venison to families in need.  Officials with the Department of Agriculture and Pennsylvania Game Commission say nearly 187-thousand pounds of deer meat were donated through a state program last year.  Hunters give the venison to deer processors, who then pass it along to food banks and food pantries.  The Hunters Sharing the Harvest program was created more than 30 years ago but officials say requests for donations increase each year because of high demand for the venison.
