REGION SEES LARGEST INCREASE IN OPIOID DEATHS

The Cumberland Times-News is reporting that Western Maryland experienced the largest percent increase in opioid deaths in the third quarter of last year. A state report shows that Allegany County saw a 111.1 per cent increase in opioid deaths in the first nine months of the year, when compared to 2019. Garrett County saw a 25 per cent increase during the same time frame, while Washington County’s rate was 36.8 percent, going from 57 deaths to 78. Progress in the fight against opioid addiction was thwarted by COVID-19.
