Al-Gar Federal Credit Union has merged with Chessie Federal Credit Union; the merger became effective August 1st. Al-Gar had operated a branch on Paca Street in Cumberland and one on Bishop Murphy Drive in Frostburg. Richard “Doc” Daugherty noted that Chessie wanted to locate a branch office on West Side and in Frostburg, and that has been accomplished with the merger. Chessie now has 32,000 members and $340 million in assets. Chessie was selected by Forbes Magazine as on of the top 3 credit unions in Maryland; they operate nine branches in Cumberland, LaVale, Frostburg, and Keyser and Grafton, West Virginia.
