TWO MORE RABIES CASES CONFIRMED IN GARRETT COUNTY

The second and third rabies cases this year have been confirmed in Garrett County. In the first, a dog and fox had an altercation; the owner of the dog saw the fox walk away and lie down. After checking on the dog, the owner approached the fox and was bitten on the hand. The owner has since begun post-exposure rabies shots. In the second incident, a raccoon and dog had been fighting, and the altercation ended in the death of the raccoon. Both incidents happened on July 23rd. Both animals tested positive. The Garrett County Health Department reminds residents that the regular, low-cost rabies clinics have been postponed until further notice, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
