UNION RESCUE MISSION REPORTS FIRST COVID-19 CASE

A female resident of Cumberland’s Union Rescue Mission has tested positive for COVID-19, and officials there are working to contain the virus. They’ve contacted not only their residents, but also the volunteers, the Allegany County Health Department, and UPMC-Western Maryland. The woman who tested positive is in a quarantined area the shelter set up in March to prepare for the virus. The mission has eight full-time employees and houses about 45 men, women, and children. UPMC-Western Maryland is in the process of testing the staff and its residents.
